I never really understood what it meant to be successful. Especially because everyone defines success differently.
Before reading personal development books, listening to podcasts, and studying the most influential people I know, I had no clue what would make me feel like my life was successful. The only thing that I knew, was that I didn’t consider myself to be on any path to success and that I didn’t know where to start.
So I became more observant. I studied the people that I looked up to, to understand why I looked up to them. The one’s that were already doing what I wanted to do in life. And what I realized is that they all had something in common.
Their “success,” was simply being able to make a living doing what they love and helping others in the process. They weren’t the richest people nor the most famous. But what they did have, were habits that helped them get to that level of success.
I’ve personally used these habits to get myself on the path to success, from being completely clueless with what I wanted to do to making a living as a blogger and personal trainer. Theses habits may seem like such simple steps but they are so powerful when applied consistently to your life.
So if you’re looking for the path to success and have no clue where to start, this will definitely help you find your way.

It’s no secret that we all have the same number of hours in a day. The difference between the people who find success and the people that don’t, is how they choose to spend that time.
Now, I’m not going to advocate burnout from being #teamnosleep. Let’s be realistic. Besides, it’s scientifically proven that without a good amount of sleep your brain won’t function properly.
What I will say is that when you wake up early you have more working hours during the day to be productive. You’ll actually be tired at night and your sleep cycle will be much better regulated.
And when you go to sleep at a decent time you’ll actually get more sleep even though you’re waking up early.
The most successful people maintain some form of exercise to keep their body and mind strong. Exercise is therapeutic and it allows you to become more alert, have more energy, and it improves your mood.
It doesn’t have to be hours in the gym. It could be walking your dog in the morning or playing a sport. It doesn’t matter as long as you enjoy it and it gets your blood circulating.
I have always been a writer. But it wasn’t until I learned about morning pages, in a book called the Artist’s Way, that I saw the true benefits that writing can have on a person’s life.
Morning pages allow you to spend the first minutes of your day focused solely on you and your own thoughts. Writing 3 pages full of a stream of your consciousness will get you to learn things about yourself that you either didn’t know or didn’t know how to address.
It can inspire you to make major life changes or simply focus on the good things that are happen, such as with a gratitude journal.

There is so much knowledge to be learned from books. Unlike watching TV or Netflix, reading expands your mind and impacts the way you think in a positive way.
It improves your memory and vocabulary. It enhances your focus and concentration. All while being entertaining. Growing up I loved reading, mainly different types of fiction. And although I still love fiction novels I find myself reading more on growth and self improvement.
So how do you read more?
There are so many hacks that people have come up with to try and read more books, like speed reading and listening to audio books at 2x speed. But if you want to read more books just dedicate a small amount of time to reading per day. Make it a daily habit.
Success most often isn’t just random. It’s a lot of time, hard work, and persistence. As a personal trainer I’ve heard so many excuses about why people can’t work out or eat healthy or fit it in their schedule.
When more often than not they just aren’t prioritizing their fitness goals. But this can apply to anything that you really want. If you’re not making time for it how do you expect it to happen.
One of the best tips I’ve learned is to pick 3 things to do each day. Make those tasks priority and do them first thing in the morning. Even if you do nothing else productive that day you’re still making progress towards your goals because you got those things done early.
Another thing that I do to prioritize is keeping a list of habits on my phone that I make sure to complete everyday. Apps that allow you to be more productive are just as great as pen and paper.
People that have a hard time reaching their goals tend to not understand the way that goal making should work. If you want to set goals that you will actually be able to achieve they should be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time oriented.
For instance, when I made it my goal to gain 20 pounds in 4 months, that was an achievable goal because it was something that I could actually keep track of. And I gave myself a realistic time to complete it.
I also made it a priority to create short term and long term goals to keep me focused on something while being guided towards the bigger picture.
In this case my long term goal was to gain 20 pounds in 4 months.
My short term goals on the other hand were more like:
These goals kept me focused and pushed me to my overall goal.
Investing in your business from the start is so important to see success.
Before I started blogging I took a lot of notes from other successful bloggers and entrepreneurs. And one thing that came up frequently was investing back into their business.
It’s always something that was said to be the best thing they could do for their business and that they wish they would have done it sooner.
And so I told myself that whenever I could, I would invest back into my business. The thing is, I couldn’t always afford to invest financially so I found other ways to invest.
I read other blogs and articles on blogging and business. I focused on mastering Pinterest to promote my blog. I created workout videos to go on social media. Podcasts and reading became my best friends.
Any free time I had to put towards my goals I would. And when I could afford to invest financial, I invested in courses and grew my business much faster than I would have without the effort that I put in.
You have to spend money to make money. Sure. We’ve all heard it. But in order to keep the money that you make you have to know when to spend and when to hold back.
There are plenty of rich people that spend like crazy because they just got it like that. But most of us don’t fit in that category.
Sometimes you have to do things you don’t want to do to get where you want to be in life.
Like saying no to the expensive dinner or clothes. And going for the cheaper item. Or getting rid of a subscription or two for the sake of saving for something more important. Or to just have more money in your pocket for a rainy day.
But it’s all worth it to get your business off the ground or to get out of debt, or whatever you may need that money for in the future.
Success comes with hate. As much as we’d love to believe it’s all rainbows and sunshine it’s not.
The more success that you achieve the more people that are there either wishing for your downfall or selfishly wishing for a piece of the pie without having to put in the effort to make it. It comes with the territory.
But the people that are able to maintain success and keep going are the ones who are able to find their true supporters. The true friends that consistently bring in positivity and light into their space.
It’s true that you are the average of the 5 people that you spend the most time with. Which is why positive successful people tend to network with other positive and successful people.
Meditation has amazing benefits for your mind. It allows to to clear your head and just be present. Connecting your mind to your body and simply relaxing. It’s an amazing stress reliever too. The best way to start a meditation practice is by finding a quiet space where you won’t be disturbed and taking 15 minutes to sit down and focus on your breathing. If there are thoughts that come to your mind, and there will be, just let them pass through. Then return to your breathing. It can be that simple.
Sure, there are successful workaholics. But they are usually lacking in parts of their lives because they spend so much time focused on their work. To be truly successful in all aspects of your life you have to maintain an overall balance.
There will be days you will spend more time working. But there will be other days where you are only focused on self care. Or when you are focused on building relationships with friends and family.
What matters most is that there are no areas in your life that are completely neglected.
Now just because you may not do all of these things doesn’t mean you aren’t or wont be successful. But if you can find a way to apply a few of these habit to your life you will see much better results on your path to success.
