10 Minute Rejuvenating Morning Yoga Routine

April 23, 2019

Yoga will always be my first love.

Yes, I am a personal trainer but before that I intended on being a yoga teacher. I fell in love with yoga in 2016. And when I started my practice at home I used to be obsessed with pushing myself to the limit. I practiced every day doing arm balances, headstands, handstands, etc. I even broke my share of vases and a television while practicing my handstands. Not to mention, I took notes from so many Instagram yogis and looked up to them. My favorites were always @ladydork and @yogalola_ because they’re women who are killing it and look like me.

After a year I researched how to become a yoga teacher. I wanted to get my RYT 200 but then I found out that I couldn’t afford it. Just being real with you. One thing led to another and I realized I was good at personal training too.

But yoga never left my heart and I always try to maintain a regular practice. And even though I’m not doing all of the advanced poses that I did before I still love it.

Because maintaining a yoga practice is not about being the best. It’s not competitive, it’s not about being the most flexible, or the strongest. Yoga is about connecting with your body and listening to what it needs. It can be as easy or as difficult as you allow it to be. All of the poses are adaptable to whatever level you’re at.

Personally I prefer to have longer yoga sessions to really tune in and clear my mind, but that’s not always possible with my schedule. But what I’ve learned is that even a few minutes of a rejuvenating yoga session makes a huge difference. Especially at the beginning of the day.

Why I recommend that you do yoga?

10 Minute Rejuvenating Morning Yoga Routine To Start Your Day

If you’re a complete beginner, it’s okay! You can still do this routine. Just find a comfortable space with enough room to move around.

This routine actually isn’t even something I can take credit for. I’m a huge believer in the power of basic movements. This is why my morning yoga always starts with Sun Salutation A, often done in ashtanga yoga. It’s perfect to awaken and open up the body in the morning. If you really want to wake up your body I suggest you do the complete salutation on each side 3 times. Don’t forget to move slow and controlled. Inhale and exhale deeply and really feel your muscles stretch.

In this video, you can watch me doing both the left and right side.

After I’ve completed the sun salutation a few times, I personally like to move and flow freely. I listen to my body and give it whatever it needs on a particular day. And I encourage you to do the same. I hope that helps!
