5 Apps To Keep Your Life Organized

December 10, 2018

I’ll admit I’m not the best at staying organized. And it’s because I’m not the best at remembering things. I’m the type of person that has to make a note about everything or else I won’t remember to do it. I know I’m too young for that but my mind wanders and if I don’t make a note I just move on to the next thing.

So I’m making a point to change that.

I’ve tried to change before but to no avail. I started a bullet journal June of this year and let’s just say I didn’t make it past July. It’s funny because I thought it would be perfect for me since I love writing and being creative. The problem was, I spent too much time creating spreads and then I would forget to actually go back and fill in the spreads with information.

I loved the idea of having a bullet journal but it just wasn’t working for me. Plus if I’m being honest here, half of the time I’d forget it at home and didn’t have it when I really needed it to write stuff down. And when I did have access to it I would forget to update my task list daily.

Yeah, I’m not the best at remembering things.

But this time is going to be different because the one thing I never forget to have with me is my phone. So I’ve decided to start using apps to organize my life.

For the longest time I’ve used the notes app to jot down things quickly like blog ideas, grocery lists, and workout routines and it’s been really useful but there was no organization to them. Everything was done randomly.

So this time I’ve downloaded some apps on my phone to see how they fit with my lifestyle.

I took the spreads of bullet journaling that I used and loved the most this past summer and found apps that I hope will be able to replace those spreads.

Here are the apps I will be using.

IOS Notes

Did you think this was going to disappear? Nope. I’m going to be using it just how I always have: to jot down notes on the fly. The Notes app can do a lot and I’m already comfortable with it.

**I’ve recently discovered you can organize your notes into folders so hopefully that will make the app less cluttered and even easier for me to use.**

This is a list app that is clean and well made. Yes, the Notes app that comes on the iPhone has an option to make lists too but just like the problem I had with bullet journaling, it doesn’t remind me to check it. The MinimaList app however has an option to set reminders for your tasks so you won’t skip anything for the day. It also has the option to be added as a widget on your phone or even be intergrated with your live wallpaper so it can be seen on your lock screen. How cool is that!?

The spread I used the most in the bullet journal was the habit tracker. It was something I didn’t realize I needed in my life until I started using it. Done is a habit tracker that’s so simple to use it’s a wonder I didn’t discover it sooner. You put in the habits you want to track whether it’s daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly and it uses a bar graph to track the habit. Just tap on the bar each time that you’ve done the habit.

You can only track 3 habits with the free version but the paid version is unlimited.

My Wonderful Days

This is a journal app and a mood tracker in one. I used my bullet journal to reflect on my day and track my mood so it was nice to see that this app had both options. It uses a smiley face system to track your mood for the day and then gives you the option to write about how your day was. It also has other writing prompts to choose from such as “I am grateful for…” and “What did you learn about yourself today, what inspired you?”

IOS Calender

I know this app is already on the phone so I didn’t have to download it but I rarely use it. And the most important part to being organized is keeping track of events and appointments. I was going to download a different app, but seeing as this one is already built into the phone system I might as well give it a try.

So this is how I plan on organizing my life for the next few months. The best part is all of the apps, except for Notes, have the option for reminders so there’s no way I’d forget to check in. Maybe one day I’ll try bullet journaling again but for now this is what I’ll be using. If everything goes according to plan I’ll be a much more productive person. Wish me luck!
