This is a hard one for me to write. Just writing about my life and putting myself on the internet for virtually anyone to see is already me stepping out of my comfort zone. But I’ve made a pact with myself to do more things that make me feel uncomfortable. To step outside of what’s the norm for me and gain new experiences, new friends, and new opportunities. And I think you should too.
This year will be all about experiences.
I feel like we get so comfortable in our everyday lives and routines that we forget to actually LIVE. Or maybe it’s just me. I’ve spent the last two years with my days pretty much on repeat, stuck at a desk job that I wasn’t happy about and going through the motions for a check. Even my time at the gym was starting to get boring as tried to find ways to switch up my exercises.
But it’s time for a change. For me and you to live and explore and try things that are foreign.
And that doesn’t mean you have to travel far and spend a lot of money, unless you want to. It could be as simple as becoming a tourist in your own city. For instance, recently I went downtown in my city to try a random restaurant that I’ve never been to. The food was amazing and it made me realize there’s more to my city than I thought. I’d always thought it was boring and wondered why so many people were moving to a state like North Carolina. But there’s something to love about this cozy southern place.
In my day of exploring I also went to a chocolate factory that I’ve passed for years but never went in. Well that day I took a tour of the factory, sampled some of the chocolate and even found out that there’s something called “sipping chocolate.” It’s essentially warm melted chocolate and it’s much richer and more dense than hot chocolate.
Being a tourist in your own city can actually be pretty fun and you’ll find out things that you never even knew.
And why am I telling you this? Because there’s more to life than watching other people live it.
Join me in this pact to experience more!
I’ve made a list of all the experiences I want to have within the next year or two and I highly encourage you to do the same. When you write your goals down, look at them everyday. Truly read them and believe in them and you’ll be more likely to accomplish them. They can be on your phone, in a journal, or on a piece of paper on your wall. It doesn’t matter where as long as you see them everyday and keep them in your thoughts.
As for my goals? This is where the post gets hard for me because I prefer to keep my goals to myself until they actually happen. All in an effort to avoid the naysayers. But in the spirit of stepping out of comfort zones I will tell you today!
So far my goals are to…
- Travel to 3 different countries within the next two years,
- Move to another state,
- Explore whatever city that I move to and try a new restaurant once a month,
- Perfect my Spanish speaking skills,
- Try working as a personal trainer FOR a gym,
- Be consistent in posting on my blog and growing a community,
- And own a pet bird, cat, or dog.
I know it doesn’t seem like much but to me these are all really big deals.
And now it’s your turn.
Go ahead and start working on that list. I would love to know what your goals are!
